World Day of Prayer (WDP) is a global ecumenical movement of Christian women from diverse faith traditions who unite each year in prayer and action on the first Friday in March. Each year, a different country prepares the WDP worship service, interpreting Scripture within their own cultural context and highlighting the challenges and hopes of women and children around the world. Upholding the motto “Informed Prayer and Prayerful Action,” World Day of Prayer seeks to foster peace, justice, and equality for women everywhere through prayer, partnership, service, and celebration.

We are filled with great joy to invite you to the 99th World Day of Prayer service and celebration, prepared this year by the women of Nigeria. Located on the west coast of Africa, Nigeria is a vibrant nation of more than 250 ethnic groups, rich in cultural, historical, and geographical diversity. The 2026 theme, drawn from Matthew 11:28–30, is “I Will Give You Rest: Come.” At a time when people around the world are weighed down by many burdens, our Nigerian sisters offer profound insights into finding true rest in God. Through their exploration of burdens such as shame, systemic oppression, religious persecution, poverty, and despair, they invite us to reflect on both the weight of human suffering and the depth of God’s divine and restorative rest.

Offering time is a blessed time! In Nigerian churches, it's customary for people to dance their offerings forward, expressing joy in giving and celebrating God's provision. This act of dancing reminds us that giving is not a burden, but a joyful response to God's grace. As we give, let us bring our offerings with that same spirit of joy and thanksgiving. |
