Saturday, June 24th – 9 am to Noon Registration information is below
Food insecurity has gone up since 2019 from 1 in 8 individuals being food insecure to 1 in 6 in 2023. Minorities, disabled, elderly, women, and children are over represented among the food insecure. However, individuals considered middle class are increasingly finding it difficult to afford food. Food banks are finding it difficult to keep up with demand. In the meantime, food is going to landfills to decompose and give off methane a powerful greenhouse gas.
We will hear from pastors addressing the needs in their communities: rural Nevada and Central Valley. The Schurz tribe in Nevada is presenting how they are addressing Food Sovereignty. The former director of the Nevada Department of Agriculture will discuss public policy at the federal and state levels that could help alleviate food insecurity. She will also discuss how this issue relates to climate change and our economic system.
Our opening devotion will be led by Belinda Robinson, a Bay Area community activist and worship leader.
